LEGO Daily Planet: Newstand

I designed a little news stand to sit next to the Daily Planet, and I’ve continued to work on new art for custom printed tiles that include a large “billboard”, a roll of film for Jimmy’s darkroom, postcards and a city map of Metropolis for the newsstand (where the blank tiles are now) and a sign for the top. Incidentally if you reached out earlier asking about newspaper tiles previously, I have them all back from the printer now. You can see some of the in-progress artwork below.

LEGO Daily Planet: Final Bricks are Ordered!

Here’s a rendering of the front signage of my Daily Planet MOC. I ordered the elements for the bottom floor (lobby) and they’ve already started arriving. It’s kind of odd after so long to be (mostly) done. I’ll post photos this week as I finished the final floor. If you’ve reached out about the custom elements, watch for the finale and let me know you’re interested and I’ll make sure you get what you want.

LEGO Daily Planet: 2nd Floor in Real Bricks!

The Daily Planet second floor is built! Last night after work I built it using the instructions I created from Stud.io, and other than a few small things they were perfect. This floor features the bullpen, Jimmy’s darkroom, Lois and Clark’s desk, and other details. Only the ground floor left, plus the custom tile printing for the computer monitors and TV screens! There’s more photos below and you can see video of the building globe turning on my Instagram account!

LEGO Daily Planet: 3rd Floor in Real Bricks!

Here’s the 3rd floor of my Daily Planet MOC in real bricks. Like the other upper floors I created instructions from Stud.io and they came out great! This floor includes a printing press with the “Luthor Wins!” headline, and a pallet of stacked papers. Here’s more photos of the model and also the new printed signage for the outside of the 1st floor (all the printing of the papers were run with the exterior signs).

LEGO Daily Planet: 4th Floor in Real Bricks!

Over the weekend I built the 4th floor of my Daily Planet MOC in real bricks! The directions I generated were fantastic and I’m beyond thrilled with how it came out! It includes Perry White’s office, a mail center, coffee service (with donuts), and a water cooler. Now just the three floors below these to go! There’s more photos below including some closeups of the details.

LEGO Daily Planet: Globe Build and Printing!

I got the remaining bricks to build the globe at the top of the 5th floor including the lettering and I’m beyond happy at how it turned out! I half expected it to be a nightmare but all those hours of moving around digital bricks and plates seem to have paid off, and it was actually quite easy.

There’s more photos below.

In semi-related news, I also got all the tiles for printing exterior signage and “newspaper” tiles and they’re ready to go to the printer. Here’s a few images:

LEGO Daily Planet: 5th Floor Build!

I just completed building the 5th floor of the Planet following my own instructions, and it went perfectly. There’s a few shots from different angles including one of Lois smoking on the roof while Superman looks on disapprovingly, along with a render of the floor from Stud.io for comparison.

It’s especially nice to have it done today because tomorrow would have been my dad’s 85th birthday, and I know he’d have loved it. Miss you dad.
